How it's printed

1. 01

   Carving the blocks

   Each part of the pattern is cut into its own wooden block, in mirror image.

2. 02

   The resist

   A paste of clay, lime and gum goes on first, to keep the white lines white.

3. 03

   Indigo and madder

   The cloth is dyed in indigo, printed again, then boiled in madder for the red.

4. 04

   Sun and water

   Washed and dried in the sun between every step, until the colours settle.
